Introduction to Physical Activity (Paediatric Type 1 Diabetes)
An introduction to the benefits of active play and sport for children with diabetes, providing guidance on how to adjust food and insulin to enjoy participation fully.
Advice requires some explanation from a Health Professional who has basic nutrition knowledge to enable correct implementation.
To support and encourage blood glucose management during active play and physical actively in children with type 1 diabetes.
The target group will understand:
- that children with type 1 diabetes can participate in active play in sport
- public health guidance for activity in children
- that food and insulin may need to be adjusted and blood glucose monitored to avoid high or low blood glucose
- the importance of checking and responding to ketone readings (guidance must be provided by diabetes team on ketone levels).
