Sleeve Gastrectomy
Information for people in recovery following a sleeve gastrectomy. It may not be suitable following other surgery types. Individual’s needs will vary based on their surgery, recovery pace and/or any complications.
The information in this booklet aims to complement essential personalised guidance from a specialist dietitian following assessment.
Advice is complex, condition specific and requires a Dietitian with knowledge, skills and experience in the condition.
To achieve recovery and weight management following sleeve gastrectomy bariatric surgery
The target group will know:
- The four stages of the Sleeve Gastrectomy Diet
- To include high-protein, low-fat foods
- To avoid sweet/sugary foods
- To chew foods thoroughly
- Not to eat and drink together
- To reduce or avoid alcohol post-surgery
- To continue take multivitamins and minerals as prescribed or advised, and quarterly B12 injections for life
- The target group will understand that vomiting, reflux and heartburn should not occur, and must seek DT advice if it does.
