Focus on Bariatric Surgery Resources

Over the past year, NDR-UK has built a strong portfolio of five resources to support patients before and after bariatric surgery.

The first three resources were developed in association with BOMSS (British Obesity & Metabolic Surgery Society):

  • Sleeve Gastrectomy contains dietary information to support development of new eating habits following sleeve gastrectomy. Ref 9008, 24 pages, £15.00 per pack of 10.
  • Gastric Bypass gives an outline of the procedure and how diet should be managed after gastric bypass. Ref 9013, 24 pages, £20.00 per pack of 10.
  • Gastric Banding gives an outline of the procedure and comprehensive guidelines for managing diet after gastric banding surgery. Ref 9014, 28 pages, £20.00 per pack of 10.

Recipes for Life – before and after bariatric surgery, was developed in conjunction with specialist dietitians from NHS Ayrshire and Arran, is packed full of tried and tested, easy to prepare and cook recipes that are high in protein and low in fat and calories. The recipes have handy hints and, while suitable for all the family, are nutritionally analysed for a small, bariatric sized portion. Ref 9016, 80 pages, £6.50 per book.

“We use the recipe books to support our pre-operative practical cooking session. The groups really enjoy these sessions, we find it encourages them to do more home cooking and to increase their awareness of portion sizes and optimal consistencies at different stages post-surgery. They are also really good fun!!”

Pam Lindsay RD, Bariatric Dietitian, University Hospital Ayr

Pre-operative 800 Kcal Diet was also developed with NHS Ayrshire and Arran.  It offers three options of 800Kcal ‘liver shrinkage’ diet – normal consistency foods, soft/liquid meals or meal replacement drinks. Ref 9015, 16 pages, £14.00 per pack of 10.

All of the above resources should be used by patients under the guidance of their specialist dietitian.
