The New Eatwell Guide and NDR-UK

Published: 17.06.16

The Eatwell Guide was published on 17 March 2016, to replace the eatwell plate.  It continues to define the government’s advice on a healthy balanced diet through a visual representation of how different foods and drinks can contribute towards a healthy balanced diet.

The Eatwell Guide is based on the 5 food groups and shows how much of what you eat should come from each food group.

NDR-UK will update its published information containing the eatwell plate with the new Eatwell Guide at reprint and through review.  Product specific alterations will be made on a case by case basis as appropriate for the care aims and learning outcomes within each publication.

Please be aware that:

  • The segment sizes of the food groups have been adjusted to reflect current government advice on a healthy balanced diet.
  • The purple segment now only contains ‘oils and spreads’. This is because some fat is essential in a healthy balanced diet, but the section’s small size reflects the fact that oils and spreads are high fat and contain a lot of calories, so should only be consumed in small amounts.
  • High fat, salt and sugar foods have been removed from the purple section and are placed outside of the main image. This aims to improve understanding that these products should be consumed infrequently and in small amounts, whilst ensuring that the Eatwell Guide provides achievable healthy eating goals.
