2021 Resources and a View to 2022

Published: 03.01.22

Reflecting on 2021, we focussed on reviews and new developments to complement established ranges and respond to needs within health and care pathways.

Plant-based nourishing diets featured in both our fully revised and updated Inside Eating range for people with eating disorders and our Oncology and Palliative Care range.  Both these resources can be used in isolation and provide guidance on how to ensure that people managing and/or recovering from illness are supported to regain weight whilst ensuring their personal principles and preferences are respected. Learn more about these resources from our shop:

  • How do I have a nourishing plant-based diet - helps people achieve the best possible health outcomes and quality of life to manage a range of side effects associated with cancer, treatment or other illness while following a plant-based diet.

All types of diabetes remained an area of interest, progress and change.  A complete revision of our Gestational Diabetes resource was completed with the support of Dietitians from the East of Scotland GDM pathway group.  While we worked with the BDA Diabetes Specialist Group to consult on needs within Type 2 Diabetes, we were pleased to continue our partnership through the review and update of the Adult Type 1 Diabetes range.  In addition, we added the World Foods resource and flashcards to the selection of Carbs and Cals titles that we are proud to distribute.

Keeping messages up to date is crucial, but we should not underestimate the importance of presentation to engage and communicate these messages.  This can be seen through our Healthy Eating, Healthy Heart booklet, paediatric weight management resources (What's Enough and Smart Sized Portions) and our simple first line anaemia and constipation titles.  All of these products found new ways of presenting key principles of how diet can help at all stages of life.

Gastroenterology is one of the biggest topics for NDR-UK, and we are pleased to have partnerships to help ensure that our resources enhance the many health and care pathways in this speciality.  With changes to guidance, we continued our partnership with Coeliac UK to update our popular Gluten-Free Living resource.  Working with the NHS Scotland ScotCap project and specialist Dietitians from NHS Lothian, we developed new resources for people going through Dietary Guidance for Colon Capsule Endoscopy Bowel Preparation and for people needing Low Fibre guidance to support through recovery and/or flare up.

And so to 2022...it is going to be a busy year!  We are ready with new publications and updates, including Gastroparesis and Paediatric Health with new IBD projects planned.  Big reviews are also underway - please keep an eye out for our consultations on Milk and Milk & Egg Free Weaning, and Malnutrition (refs: 9310, 9312 and 9229). The team is working hard to plan our new 3-year strategy.  We will be in touch to consult with stakeholders, customers and supporters to ensure that we continue to support your needs now and in the future.  If you would like to help, know more or have any suggestions, please get in touch - we are looking forward to working with you!
