Proposal
Registered dietitians in America and Australia have recently launched twitter forums #rdchat and #eatkit respectively. It is proposed that UK dietitians have a similar virtual venue. As with any social network other subscribers may access as and when, which is considered an advantage in helping to raise the profile of the BDA, its members and registered dietitians within the UK.

SNDRi and NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde's production process for the South Asian Balance of Good Health
Developing a Culturally Sensitive and Appropriately Translated Nutrition and Diet Resource for a UK South Asian Population poster is available to download. This poster describes SNDRi and NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde's project to ensure systematically produced quality, culturally sensitive, evidence-based nutrition and diet resources developed by a multi-disciplinary team and involving members of the target group.

NDR-UK’s Chief Executive Officer is the new Scottish Patient Information Forum (PiF) Representative
Leona O’Reilly, NDR-UK Chief Executive Officer is the Scottish PiF Representative.
PiF is the UK’s health information producers’ network. It raises key health information issues with Government, national and local policy makers to promote and support excellence. The network provides opportunities for their 750 members to share expertise and provide peer support through discussion to find solutions. Leona notes that, ‘working with PiF can be of mutual benefit for SNDRí (NDR-UK), dietitians and other health professionals who use nutrition and diet resources with patients across the UK’.

NHS National Patient Safety Agency publish new Dysphagia Diet Food Texture Descriptors (April 2011)
The descriptors were developed by the National Patient Safety Agency (NPSA) Dysphagia Expert Reference Group in association with Cardiff and Vale University Health Board and have been endorsed by the BDA, RCSLT, Hospital Caterers Association (HCA) and the National Nurses Nutrition Group (NNNG).
The descriptors were developed in response to concerns relating to patient safety and a request from industry and in-house caterers for detailed guidance on categories of texture. Click here to view the new descriptors.
