Early Stage and Advanced Dementia

Peer & Patient Review

NDR-UK are looking to fulfil gaps and needs for information provision for people with dementia and their carers, by expanding the range to ensure nutrition-related guidance is available throughout their whole journey, from diagnosis and early stages to advance stages and palliative care.

We plan to create resources to support:

• People experiencing changes to their cognition to eat well and live well, and to be aware of signs and symptoms requiring further support/intervention and where to get help.
• Friends/family/carers of people with advanced dementia and those receiving end-of-life care to provide nutrition and hydration to help maintain quality of life, optimise well-being and food enjoyment.

Once published, these 2 new resources will join 'Eating Well with Dementia - A Guide for Carers' which provides guidance for moderate to advanced stage dementia.

Thanks to everyone who commented as part of the initial peer review. Updates have been made and we now welcome comments from health professionals and target audience feedback on the updated drafts:

• Living Well: Nutrition and Cognitive Changes DRAFT
• Eating and Drinking in Advanced Dementia DRAFT

Feedback will help inform updates, and we are specifically seeking responses on:

• clarity of key messages
• suitability for purpose
• length and amount of details given
• Resource titles.

Following this review, the project group will consider all responses, make updates and further improvements before moving to graphic design.
